You must be wondering if i have gone crazy., well something of that sort is happening or shall shortly happen.. Back home in India i guess the only time i ran around doing some paper work was maybe for my Passport <<that was twice., the 1st time i got a passport and the 2nd time after i lost my passport>> and then for the Visa.. Those were like really strict paper work, you had to have them all right, but that was it..
But in Berlin, alll i have been doing, <atleast mostly> ever since i have landed here is paper work and more paper work.. The bloody work or student contract needs soo many paper works..
First thing after you reach here or land here you get a place to stay, then get the home contract made, paper work no 1 i guess.. And once you have that you have to Register yourself and your address of present residence within 2 weeks from the time of arrival.. And everytime you chnage your address or home you have to re-register, let s leave aside that..
Then you need to get a medical health insurance, that is also a compulsion, it is a law actually.. Talking about Insurance, everything has an insurance here. "i find it difficult to explain our insurance policies to students who come from India, cause we have an insurance for everything" the words of my HR., She also suggested i never get out of home untill i have an insurance..
There are a number of insurances, there is also the accident insurance, house hold or home insurance, animal insurance, vehicle insurance, bicycle insurance, disability insurance., third party insurance etc etc..
Lets say you are at a shop and you drop or break something by mistake, or you cause a minor accident by coming in the way of a cyclist, anything committed innocently or even carelessly., you have to pay up.. And this is where the third party insurance covers it for you..
There is one such insurance for your pet as well, if your pet injures someone or damages something be it even by mistake..
They have a insurance in our institute as well and we are all covered under it, wherein, if you accidently break something in the lab or office, the insurance shall cover it.. Well its crazy, but its awesome, i remember paying fines for breaking stuffs in the chemistry lab in college..
Well the Insurance policies are good no doubt about it, imagine you have had an accident and are bedridden for a couple of months, you still get your salary the insurance pays it..
Its just the range and number of insurances that surprises me. It also amazes me..
Anyways back to the paper works, once you have the Registration you then get the bank account.. Following this comes the Tax card, then the Residence permit.. And finally the contract..
Further for a long time the Passport officials and the Contract kept me going back and forth.. Each of them wanted the other document.. I had to fill about 50, actually more than 50 pages of forms for the contract.. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr..
Well this is not all, other than all this gerenal forms or let us say administrative forms and paper works, there is also the work related forms, the project proposal, the enrolement, the animal experiments, blaa bla blaa bla..
last week a friend of mine had done some surgery on a mice and further after a cpl of days, she had to kill the mice and see how the surgery worked or helped., she decided on doing it in the lab instead of the animal house., but to jus shift places and kill the mice she had to go about with a set of paper work again.. I mean seriously..!!
not wanting to be rude or heartless, but a set of paper works about the surgery., what you feed the mice., how many times you feed it., where you keep it., who does the surgery., how many people., etc etc is already done before the surgery.. And then yet again for shifting..
Omg.. But one has to do soo sooo much paper work, i guess 50% of our time is spent on paper work.. The who where what why., It is never ending..
Paper work sucks..
Well this is not my complete description of Berlin or Germany, this is just a part of it..

Seriously paper work is so tiring and boring. You know I washed my husband's passport by mistake with whites, in hot water. We had bugs in our new apartment and we were supposed to wash everything in high temperature. Guess what? More paperwork for me...:(
